Orlando, Florida – Over 300 industry voting attendees at the International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) cast their ballot on favorite new products debuting in 2018. It was local Montrose business and fly tackle manufacturer Ross Reels who took home the top prize in their respective class. Ross Reels, known for their precision machining and durability, was awarded Best New Fly Reel in the Saltwater category for its all-new EVOLUTION LTXseries of fly reels. The award is Ross' second honor in three years after the business took home top awards in 2016.

Held annually July, the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA), in conjunction with IFTD, presents the awards. Voting occurs in a secure space separate from the manufacturers. Results are then calculated by code, ensuring the integrity of the vote and keeping winners in suspense until the very end.
This year, IFTD, in conjunction with the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), encompassed over 220,000 square feet at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center. The event hosted 626 exhibitors, and more than 15,000 people registered for the show, including 1,154 people from 71 countries, confirming its status as the world’s biggest and fastest growing tackle-trade show. This year, AFFTA Vice-Chair Colby Trow announced the winners at the annual “Party at the Pond” event on Thursday, July 12th. “It’s an honor to win any IFTD award,” said Bart Larmouth, Sales Manager. “These awards are the industry’s gold medals. Our sincerest thanks go out to our dealers and industry media.”
The company allows for free factory tours Monday through Thursday, noted Larmouth, and tours can be arranged by calling the factory at 970-249-0606. “We are a hyper-local company, and we want customers to come see the making of an Ross product up close and personal.” All Ross products are 100% made in the United States.

The LTX: The Ross Reels Evolution series defined the modern trout reel. Now meet the Evolution LTX: the perfect combination of original Evolution LT feel and Evolution R performance. The ultra-smooth drag found in the Evolution LT has a long and revered history, but our engineering team took this design to the next level. The drag debuting with the LTX is over four times stronger than its predecessors’, while retaining the sound and feel that helped make the Evolution an icon.
The Gunnison: Cutting through the Black Canyon on the Western Slope of Colorado, and only 10 miles from the Ross Reels factory, the storied Gunnison river inspired the name for one of the most iconic, reliable, and best-selling fly reels ever produced. As a tribute to the original aesthetics, the Gunnison is designed with octagonal machining, round porting, and a leader groove on the frame. That is where the similarities part ways, as the new Gunnison represents the best in modern reel design while retaining all the reliability and ruggedness of the original.
